Note: Copy in possession of excerpt from letter written by Fannie to her
father Luther Cummings and her aunt Nellie about when her husband Fred
died:

October 20, 1910

Dear Father And Aunt Nellie

Fred passed away October 18, 1910 at 9:30 pm. They took him away from me
the same night between 1:00 and 2:00. I was upstairs. Arthru came down
and tended to all things. They would not let us go near him after he had
gone.

I was right with him at the time, he choked to death. That was the way he
died but the doctors say he died from small pox.

One week ago yesterday he was going like the old mischief in his hired
auto ourt in the county on his trip. The back wheel on the right side
came off and went clear over the fence on his left side. you can imagine
how shook up he was. He went forward on the handle and the brakes. He was
hurt inside bu did not know it. At least he would not admit it until the
last day. Then he told me that "the pain in his side was awful and he
believed it was from the hurt he got."

"...he made me keep this house 80 degrees and not less than 75 degrees
now imagine how we suffered."

"...I keep formaldehyde around all the time just as I do when any of us
are sick."

"...Oh! Father, Donald was just here with the auto and he was not
quarentened. ust think poor Fred will never drive it again."

" Oh! Father, everyone is so good to us but they can't take Fred's place.
I can't relaize he is gone. It seems as if he was just away on his weeks
trip. What will I ever do when Saturday and Sunday comes. I can't bear to
think of it."

"...Come when you can for Fanny always needs her daddy when he can be
where she is. Love from all to all. I remain your daughter and niece,
Fanny Montney.
